The 2026/27 UEFA Champions League play-offs began with three first-leg matches, all ending in draws and leaving qualification wide open ahead of the second legs. In Bulgaria, Levski Sofia and AEK Athens finished 0-0, with AEK's Luka Jović hitting the bar and goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha making key saves to keep the stalemate. This was only the second UEFA competition game out of their last 55 to end goalless. The return match will be hosted by AEK on 26 August.
In Croatia, GNK Dinamo took a 2-0 lead through goals from Dion Beljo and Mateo Lisica, but Viking equalized before halftime via Peter Christiansen and Zlatko Tripić, ending 2-2. Neither side could break the deadlock in the second half, with Viking taking a valuable draw to Norway for the second leg. Viking have lost only one of their last seven UEFA away games in this competition. The second leg is also on 26 August.
Fenerbahçe and Lyon drew 1-1. Lyon took the lead in the 40th minute as Loïs Openda's deflected header connected with a Corentin Tolisso assist. Fenerbahçe quickly answered after halftime with Mason Greenwood scoring from a tight angle. Lyon remain unbeaten in their last six UEFA meetings against Fenerbahçe, with four wins and two draws. The second leg will be played in Lyon on 26 August.
