At the Ibero American Championships in Lima, Peru, Brazil’s Ana Carolina de Jesus Azevedo achieved a sprint treble by winning the 100m, 200m, and mixed 4x100m events. She set a championship record and personal best with an 11.08-second finish in the 100m final, after running 11.11 in the semifinals. Azevedo also helped Brazil secure the newly introduced mixed 4x100m relay in 40.99 and completed her treble with a wind-aided 22.50 in the 200m, after setting a championship record of 22.89 in the semifinals.
Uruguay’s Valentín Soca made history by winning the 10,000m in 28:28.92 and the 1500m in 3:41.17, becoming the first athlete to achieve this double in the championship’s 43-year history. On the same day, Déborah Rodríguez claimed gold in the 800m, marking a significant achievement for Uruguay.
Argentina’s Micaela Levaggi won both the 1500m and 5000m events, while Chile’s Claudio Romero set a new men’s discus record with a throw of 65.93 meters.
Puerto Rican sprinters Eloy Benitez and José Figueroa delivered standout performances. Benitez won the 100m in 10.01 seconds, just shy of the championship record, while Figueroa took the 200m in a wind-aided 20.21 seconds. Together, they led Puerto Rico to victory in the 4x100m relay in 38.84.
