U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright has added Thailand to the list of countries where U.S. companies are generally authorized to export certain controlled nuclear technology and assistance without advance Department of Energy approval. These exports remain subject to reporting requirements. With Thailand's inclusion, there are now 51 eligible destinations.
This change falls under DOE regulation for Assistance to Foreign Atomic Energy Activities (10 C.F.R. § 810), which implements section 57 b.(2) of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. Secretary Wright's authorization covers activities deemed not harmful to U.S. interests, including technology transfers and assistance.
The expanded list of generally authorized destinations complements DOE efforts such as negotiating new 123 Agreements and improving the Part 810 web-based licensing system, e810. These actions are part of DOE’s implementation of President Trump’s Executive Order 14299, supporting advanced nuclear reactor deployment and promoting U.S. nuclear exports. The National Nuclear Security Administration administers these regulatory processes.
