The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) has created a Secret/Restricted Data (S/RD) Enterprise Cloud environment in partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), marking a key step in modernizing its digital infrastructure. This is the first cloud authorized to process S/RD, enabling a unified and secure digital ecosystem connecting the NNSA’s laboratories, plants, and sites.
According to NNSA Administrator Brandon Williams, the initiative enables seamless integration and real-time collaboration with advanced digital tools across the nuclear enterprise. AWS provides the foundation for this cloud transformation, delivering secure infrastructure for scientists and engineers working in national security.
The S/RD Enterprise Cloud environment supports workstreams such as product development, digital engineering, advanced computing, simulation, and secure data analytics. It allows multiple design and production agencies to securely access shared tools while maintaining critical operational boundaries essential to the NNSA’s mission.
This cloud environment will also support the NNSA’s Genesis Mission, a national effort launched by Presidential Executive Order to accelerate the application of artificial intelligence for transformative scientific discovery addressing national challenges.
