Simultaneously, the White House has withdrawn Walter Clayton's nomination for United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, which would have been a four-year term.

Both the nomination for Director of National Intelligence and the withdrawal of the U.S. Attorney nomination were sent to the Senate for consideration.
