Independent UN human rights experts have warned of increasing Israeli settler violence across the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, driving more displacement of Palestinian communities, according to a report by UN News.

The group of 13 Special Rapporteurs appointed by the Human Rights Council indicated that at least 13 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 500 injured in the first five months of the year. They underscored that communities in Area C of the West Bank face heightened risks, including settlement expansion. Regions such as the Jordan Valley and South Hebron Hills were noted as being under particular pressure.

Umm al-Kheir, a community in the South Hebron Hills, was specifically mentioned by the experts as enduring repeated raids, demolitions, and damage to its infrastructure, along with greater restrictions on access to land and essential services. These factors contribute to increased displacement risks for residents.

The experts urged Israel to halt support for settlements and settler violence and stressed the need for accountability for attacks. They also called for stronger measures to protect Palestinian communities and ensure the safe return of displaced residents.

Additionally, the UN Secretary-General addressed the Economic and Social Council, highlighting reforms to the UN development system that have improved coherence, accountability, and alignment with national priorities. However, he cautioned that diminishing funding threatens to undermine this progress.

Amid ongoing conflict, UNRWA reported increased military activity in Gaza, leading to more casualties and displacement. Residents like Ahmed Talal, living close to Israeli-controlled areas, described heavy gunfire and repeated displacements, sometimes leading to extended periods of homelessness.
