The United Nations General Assembly has established the Global Dialogue on AI Governance, a platform designed to bring together governments, private sector actors, academia, and civil society to discuss artificial intelligence governance.
The first session of the Global Dialogue will be a two-day event on 6-7 July 2026 at the Palexpo convention centre in Geneva, Switzerland. It will feature high-level segments, thematic sessions, and side events. During the event, the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence is scheduled to present its preliminary report.
Participants will include UN Secretary-General António Guterres, representatives from countries such as El Salvador and Estonia, and officials from organizations including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNESCO. AI leaders from the private sector, academia, and civil society will also attend.
The event will be livestreamed on UN WebTV. Media registration is open until 25 June 2026, with accreditation and supporting documentation required. Individual participation without organizational affiliation is not permitted. The AI Dialogue coincides with the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2026 and the ITU AI for Good Global Summit, with combined media accreditation available for all three events.
The Global Dialogue on AI Governance was established by UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/325 and is facilitated by co-chairs supported by a joint secretariat comprising ITU, UNESCO, the UN Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies, and the Executive Office of the UN Secretary-General.
