World Aquatics recently held an educational webinar to help Technical Officials build mental resilience during competitions. Over 150 top officials worldwide attended the session on 16 July, led by sports psychiatrist Dr. Alan Currie. The webinar is part of the Webinars for Technical Officials series on the CORAL e-learning platform.
The session addressed realistic competition scenarios such as missing scoring elements, difficult interactions, and emergencies, exploring how stress impacts concentration and decision-making. Techniques like grounding exercises and breathing strategies were introduced to help officials regain focus and maintain composure during critical moments.
World Aquatics emphasized that success for Technical Officials requires both rule knowledge and psychological skills, including resilience and clear judgment under pressure. The webinar reflects World Aquatics' broader commitment to supporting officials' development through educational tools like live webinars, self-paced courses, and peer knowledge sharing via the CORAL platform.
Certified World Aquatics Coaches and Technical Officials can access the recorded webinar in the CORAL Library. More educational content is planned as part of the ongoing global learning programme.
