UNESCO is supporting a nationwide study to assess online violence among adolescents and young people in the Kyrgyz Republic. The study will include regions such as Chui, Issyk-Kul, Osh, Jalal-Abad, Naryn, Talas, Batken, as well as major cities Bishkek and Osh.
More than 1,000 respondents aged 11 to 24, representing diverse social, ethnic, and geographical backgrounds, will participate. This approach aims to collect representative data on online violence in both urban and rural areas.
The study will place special emphasis on vulnerable groups, particularly youth living in rural areas and members of ethnic minorities, to better understand their experiences.
Research tools and methods were reviewed by experts and representatives from the Centre for Parliamentary and Democratic Development at the Jogorku Kenesh, the Ministry of Education, UNESCO's Regional Office in Almaty, and civil society. Tools include quantitative questionnaires, in-depth interview guides, focus group discussion protocols, digital diary methods, informed consent documentation, and digital content coding guidelines.
