Dr Josip Varvodić, a member of the World Aquatics Bureau, has been elected President of the Croatian Olympic Committee, becoming the organization's fourth president in its 35-year history. He was chosen at the Extraordinary Assembly held in Zagreb, succeeding Zlatko Mateša, who led the committee since 2002.
Varvodić holds multiple roles in sports administration, serving as President of the Croatian Swimming Federation and First Vice President of European Aquatics. He has been part of the World Aquatics Bureau since 2022, most recently renewing his term through 2029.
Outside of sports, Dr Varvodić works as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon at the Department of Cardiac and Transplantation Surgery at University Hospital Zagreb. His careers in medicine and sports administration demonstrate his leadership and service.
