The United Nations Security Council recently convened to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, amid concerns it may be overshadowed by broader regional issues. This meeting was requested by ten elected Council members.

Since October 2025, a nominal ceasefire has been in place; however, nearly 1,000 Palestinians have died, and most Gazans remain displaced, according to reports. Relief efforts continue, with UN-supported hot meal kitchens in Khan Younis providing essential assistance to those affected.

Tom Fletcher, the UN relief chief, described improvements since the ceasefire as "fragile gains," representing only the minimum level of support needed by Palestinians in Gaza.
