Nearly 138 million children worldwide are involved in child labour, with 54 million engaged in hazardous work that threatens their health and development, according to the International Labour Organization (ILO). Gilbert F. Houngbo, ILO Director-General, called for accelerated global action to ensure children can learn and grow in safe environments. The Marrakech Global Framework for Action against Child Labour aims to combat this by promoting decent jobs for parents, universal quality education, enhanced social protection, and stronger legal institutions. The framework introduces measurable indicators and an accountability mechanism to track progress beyond the 2030 target date.

Meanwhile, the International Criminal Court (ICC) has suspended its chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, with immediate effect following investigations into sexual misconduct allegations. The ICC President’s office confirmed that the executive committee referred disciplinary proceedings to the court’s 125 Member States for a decision at an upcoming special session. Khan has denied the allegations, which surfaced in 2024 involving a female colleague at The Hague. The ICC emphasized the suspension does not prejudge the outcome and highlighted the importance of upholding dignity and rights within the court’s personnel.
