UNESCO held a two-day workshop for 26 Angolan journalists and media professionals in Luanda from 1 to 2 September 2026, aiming to strengthen their capacity to report freely and safely. The initiative was funded by the Norwegian Embassy in Angola and implemented by DN Consultoria, in coordination with the Angolan Ministry of Justice and Human Rights.
The training enhanced understanding of international and national legal frameworks supporting freedom of expression and access to information. Participants engaged in interactive exercises, analyzing real-world scenarios through a human rights lens and using findings from UNESCO's resources, such as the World Trends in Freedom of Expression and Media Development report published in December 2025.
This workshop is part of UNESCO's ongoing efforts to promote freedom of expression, improve access to information, and strengthen journalist safety. It aligns with the United Nations Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the Issue of Impunity, focusing on building national and regional capacity to prevent, protect, and prosecute attacks against media professionals, with attention to the specific risks faced by women journalists.
