Following the Hamas terrorist attack against Israeli civilians on October 7, Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip have caused a severe humanitarian crisis affecting all aspects of civilian life, according to UNESCO.
Under its mandate for education, culture, and press freedom, UNESCO is mobilizing efforts to address the crisis in Gaza.
Separately, the Executive Board of UNESCO has nominated Khaled El-Enany of Egypt for Director-General following a vote.
