Recent missile and drone attacks in the Russia-Ukraine conflict have caused significant civilian casualties, with more than 30 deaths reported in and around Kyiv from Russian strikes. At the same time, Ukraine launched some of its largest drone attacks on Russian territory since the war began in 2022.
UN monitors verified that in the first half of 2026, 1,396 Ukrainian civilians were killed and 7,978 injured. July 2026 was the deadliest month for Ukrainian civilians since April 2022, underscoring the escalating violence.
The UN's humanitarian aid office reports that about 10.8 million Ukrainians currently require humanitarian assistance. Senior UN officials addressing the Security Council stressed the urgent need for every diplomatic effort toward a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire to ease civilian suffering.
