Violence in Haiti’s Artibonite and West departments has displaced thousands. Fighting in Artibonite forced more than three-quarters of affected people to seek refuge in the commune of Marchand Dessalines. Armed clashes in Cité Soleil since 13 June displaced over 5,000 people and forced Médecins Sans Frontières to suspend maternity facility operations. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) also reported an increase in forced returns, with women and children representing significant proportions among returnees. In April, the UN released $140.5 million in emergency funding aimed at reaching one million people, but the 2026 Humanitarian Appeal is only 27% funded, with $240 million received out of $880 million requested.
In Lebanon, despite a recent ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, displacement continues with more than 57,000 people still residing in 516 collective shelters. Many remain hesitant to return due to fears of renewed hostilities, the presence of Israel Defense Forces, and widespread destruction. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has reported ongoing ceasefire violations. Nevertheless, the UN and its partners continue providing lifesaving assistance, distributing over 181,000 blankets, 141,000 mattresses, more than 162,000 hygiene kits, 92,000 menstrual hygiene kits, and over 3.7 million liters of bottled drinking water since escalations began on 2 March.
In Gaza, humanitarian conditions continue to deteriorate as civilians face increasing challenges accessing clean water and healthcare. UN agencies have stepped up water, sanitation, and health support, including pest control campaigns to address widespread skin diseases. The UN Development Programme delivered additional water trucks, while UNICEF provided water treatment chemicals to improve water quality. The UN spokesperson noted that water trucking remains a backup measure pending repairs to Gaza’s damaged water infrastructure.
