The U.S. Department of Energy has released the 2026 U.S. Energy and Employment Report, highlighting job growth in key energy sectors that align with President Trump’s Energy Dominance agenda. The report emphasizes rising employment in coal, nuclear power, natural gas, and electric power sectors, supporting affordable and reliable energy for American families and businesses. The median energy-sector salary reached $63,000—24% higher than the national median of $51,000—reflecting improved compensation for energy sector workers.
Natural gas transmission and distribution employment expanded by 5%, adding 12,500 workers. Nuclear power saw a 4% increase, with 2,300 new jobs, while coal power generation grew by 5%, adding 2,800 jobs. The electric power transmission and distribution sector added 17,900 jobs, a 2% increase.
The report also notes a rise in registered apprenticeships in construction. New registered apprentices increased by 9% in 2025 compared to 2024, totaling 112,000 new apprenticeships versus 103,000 the year before.
Mandated by Congress, the report offers data across five energy sectors: Transmission, Distribution, and Storage; Electric Power Generation; Fuels; Energy Efficiency; and Motor Vehicles and Component Parts. The 2026 edition adds wage, methodology, and projected hiring data to support the growing need for skilled energy workers nationwide.
