Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. recalled 1,589,577 dozen shell eggs on July 22, 2026, due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recall includes brown cage-free and white shell eggs sold in bulk and retail sizes from 6 to 60 eggs. Affected eggs have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20, 2026, and August 17, 2026, and were produced in Texas between June 6 and July 3, 2026.
The recalled eggs were distributed to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, including Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana and Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana, as well as smaller outlets in these states plus Mississippi and New Mexico. They were sold under various brand names including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire's, Cal-Maine, and Country Morning. Only cartons with codes P-1950 or 0840962 and a Julian Date between 157 and 184 printed on the side are included in the recall.
Consumers are advised not to eat any recalled shell eggs and to either discard them or return them to the place of purchase. Any items or surfaces that may have contacted the eggs should be washed with hot soapy water or cleaned in a dishwasher. If symptoms such as diarrhea with a fever above 102°F, prolonged or bloody diarrhea, severe vomiting, or signs of dehydration occur, individuals should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
Businesses should not sell or serve the recalled eggs and must clean and sanitize any equipment or surfaces that may have come into contact with the affected products. Salmonella infection typically causes diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, but young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems may be at greater risk for severe illness.
