By presidential authority, Cameron County, Texas, has been granted permission to own, operate, and maintain the Brownsville and Matamoros Bridge at the United States-Mexico border in Brownsville, Texas. The crossing, known as the B&M Bridge, includes vehicular lanes as well as pedestrian and bicycle pathways, as described in the county's application submitted on March 30, 2026.
The permit defines the border facilities as comprising the bridge over the Rio Grande River connecting downtown Brownsville and Matamoros, Mexico, including its four vehicle lanes, pedestrian side crossing, and related land and structures on the U.S. side.
Conditions require Cameron County to maintain and operate the facilities according to the application and allow inspection by authorized federal, state, and local officials. The county must comply with all applicable federal laws and obtain necessary permits, approvals, or authorizations from various government agencies.
Additionally, the permittee is obligated to immediately notify the President or the President's designee if any decision is made to transfer custody or control of the border facilities or parts to a U.S. executive department or agency.
