The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is committed to making its information and communications technology (ICT) accessible to individuals with disabilities under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d). Section 508 establishes technical requirements for accessibility compliance.

The DOE references the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 as part of its web content accessibility standards. More details on Section 508 and technical standards are available on the DOE and Section508.gov websites.

Individuals who believe DOE ICT is not compliant with Section 508 may file complaints by contacting the DOE Section 508 Coordinator via the designated mailbox. The coordinator is also available for feedback or to address accessibility concerns.

To facilitate effective communication, the DOE uses Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS), enabling persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or have speech disabilities to use the telephone on equal terms with others.

The DOE provides information on reasonable accommodation and personal assistance services to support employees with disabilities.
