The United States has selected a team of 19 athletes for the World Athletics Road Running Championships Copenhagen 26, scheduled for 19-20 September. The competition features races in the mile, 5km, and half marathon distances. Notable athletes include Weini Kelati, Conner Mantz, and Yared Nuguse, all of whom hold North American or area records.
Yared Nuguse, an Olympic 1500m bronze medalist, will compete in his first World Road Running Championships in the mile event. He will be joined by Vincent Ciattei, a three-time US road mile champion making his US team debut. The men’s half marathon squad features Mantz, the North American marathon record holder, along with Wesley Kiptoo, Hillary Bor, and Ahmed Muhumed.
On the women’s side, Weini Kelati, a 2024 Olympian in the 10,000m and area record-holder in the half marathon, leads a squad that includes six other runners from the USATF Half Marathon Championships. Kelati and three athletes—Jess McClain, Emma Grace Hurley, and Ednah Kurgat—will score points, despite experiencing a misdirection late in their race. The women’s 5km team includes Olympic and world 3000m steeplechase silver medalist Courtney Frerichs and Karissa Schweizer. The women’s mile squad features Gracie Hyde and Addy Wiley, while the men’s 5km team comprises US champion Drew Hunter and Dylan Jacobs.
