NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured a detailed close-up image of the Trifid Nebula, located about 5,000 light-years from Earth. The image reveals a shimmering, star-forming region with intricate structures in Hubble’s visible light spectrum, displaying colors reminiscent of fine sediments drifting underwater.
Massive stars beyond this field of view have influenced the nebula for at least 300,000 years. Their powerful winds have formed an expanding bubble. The image shows part of this bubble, where the stellar winds compress gas and dust clouds, triggering new waves of star formation within the nebula.
The image was released on April 20, 2026, marking the 36th anniversary of the Hubble mission’s launch and highlighting the telescope’s enduring contribution to astronomy.
