The Department of Energy (DOE) has established Information Quality Guidelines in line with the Information Quality Act, as mandated by the Treasury and General Government Appropriations Act, to ensure that information disseminated by the agency meets standards of quality, objectivity, utility, and integrity. These guidelines help DOE offices provide accurate and reliable information to the public.
As part of its commitment, the DOE has mechanisms allowing the public to request corrections to information if it is found inconsistent with agency or Office of Management and Budget (OMB) guidelines. This process promotes transparency and trust in DOE information.
The DOE follows OMB initiatives, including guidelines published in the Federal Register in 2002 and the 2019 Memorandum M-19-15, which instruct agencies to update practices in response to changes in the information environment and adopt best practices for information quality.
Additionally, the DOE adheres to the OMB’s Final Information Quality Bulletin for Peer Review, which encourages peer review to enhance the credibility and objectivity of scientific information across federal agencies. This policy highlights peer review as essential for ensuring the reliability of highly influential scientific assessments and other information disseminated by the DOE.
