A 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon took effect at midnight in Beirut, resulting in a temporary halt to fighting after weeks of conflict.

The United Nations Secretary-General welcomed the ceasefire and urged all parties to honor the agreement, expressing hope it could lead to further negotiations.

Iran also announced that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open to commercial vessels for the duration of the ceasefire, which the UN Secretary-General called a positive development.
