Influenza-like illness (ILI) activity in Vanuatu peaked in epidemiological week 13 with 793 cases, surpassing the alert threshold, then declined in the following weeks, remaining below the threshold from weeks 14 to 16.
Severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) cases decreased from 11 in week 13 to 3 by week 16, with a minor increase to 5 cases in week 15.
No laboratory-confirmed pathogen cases were reported overall between weeks 13 and 16. Among confirmed infections, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) was most prevalent, contributing 26 cases, predominantly in children aged 0–4 years, who accounted for 84% of all confirmed cases.
Meningitis cases were distributed across age groups 0 to 20 years and were primarily reported on Efate island, which also accounted for all influenza, RSV cases, and the single SARS-CoV-2 case during this period.
Gender distribution showed a slight majority of female cases overall, while males accounted for most meningitis and influenza cases.
