More than ten people were reportedly killed and many others injured in a drone strike on Tuesday in Um Dukhun town, Central Darfur, according to local sources. UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric strongly condemned the attack on civilians and civilian infrastructure. Insecurity also forced approximately 115 people to flee a village in Kutum locality, North Darfur, seeking refuge in El Fasher, the regional capital, as stated by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Amid the ongoing civil war in Sudan, the UN and its partners continue to address critical needs. The World Health Organization (WHO) is conducting a six-day vaccination campaign, the "Big Catch Up," aiming to immunize over 81,000 children across eight localities in West Darfur. The UN emphasizes the need for safe, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian access, along with flexible funding, to reach vulnerable populations.

The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) highlighted on Wednesday the growing threat landmines and unexploded ordnance pose amid global conflicts. UNMAS estimates about 100 million people in over 60 countries live with landmine risks. Each year, thousands are killed or injured on contaminated land; nine out of ten victims are civilians, half of whom are children. UNMAS convened its annual meeting in Geneva with national demining experts, where Director Kazumi Ogawa noted that conflicts are persisting or intensifying in many areas, exposing millions. UN Global Advocate for Peace, Maryam Bukar Hassan, shared testimony from Borno State, Nigeria—one of the most affected regions—where over 400 civilians were landmine casualties in 2024.
