The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) reaffirms its commitment to equal employment opportunity (EEO), prohibiting unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation against employees or applicants based on race, color, sex (including pregnancy), religion, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, or participation in protected EEO activities.

This protection covers all management actions, including recruitment, hiring, promotions, training, benefits, transfers, reassignments, and separations within the Department.

Employees are encouraged to report any discrimination or harassment to management officials, the DOE Office of Equal Employment Opportunity, or their respective EEO office. To maintain the right to file an EEO complaint, contact must be made within 45 calendar days of the alleged event or from when the individual becomes aware of it.

The Elijah E. Cummings Federal Employee Antidiscrimination Act of 2020 further strengthens federal anti-discrimination laws and requires agencies to post findings of discrimination against them on their public websites for at least one year, increasing transparency and accountability.
