Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) at the CDC/ATSDR is a voluntary program that helps employees resolve workplace conflicts confidentially and informally. It offers options such as mediation and facilitated discussions as alternatives to formal grievances or Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) complaints.
The ADR program is available to CDC employees, Commissioned Corps Officers, Fellows, and contractors who have worked with the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity (OEEO) regarding perceived discrimination. EEO staff determine eligibility for informal complaint filing.
Services include employee and management consultations, mediation, facilitated discussions, and training. The program aims to minimize workplace disruption, promote a respectful environment, and encourage communication while maintaining business relationships.
While management may recommend ADR, participation is voluntary. Employees should not feel pressured to use ADR services. Participation gives both employees and management control over the resolution outcome.
ADR is available at all stages of the EEO informal and formal complaint processes and can also be used for issues unrelated to EEO.
