Between 2019 and 2022, Africa created approximately 400,000 jobs in the clean energy sector, while about 200,000 jobs in fossil fuels were lost during the same period.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) projects that the green transition could generate over 9 million jobs by 2030 and an additional 3 million by 2050 across Africa.

To support climate adaptation and mitigation efforts and enable the shift to clean energy, industry, and construction, African countries must develop new green skills. This shift requires policies to improve both access to and the quality of skills training programs.
